One of the key focuses of Siyazana Youth Development Fund is to provide access to education for young people who may otherwise be unable to afford it.
Illiteracy is a pressing issue that affects millions of people worldwide, and South Africa is no exception. Despite its status as a developing nation, the country still grapples with high illiteracy rates. According to recent statistics, approximately 7million adults in South Africa are functionally illiterate, unable to read or write at a basic level. We are passionate about irradicating the fear around reading, in both children and adults. This fear stems from a direct inability to read and the stigma that accompanies this. The equipment and resources provided, are used to equip our
beneficiaries with the necessary skills to be adequately prepared for that most important first day of school.

Our literacy and numeracy programs include the training of educators, parents and care-givers, and the distribution of educational material, equipment and resources. Our Book Nooks have had and continues to have a significant impact on the educational opportunities available to children and adults in our community.

At the end of 2023, Siyazana YDF had equipped over 18 Educare Centres with books, book nooks, equipment, nutritious meals and teacher resources. We have also extended our projects and partnerships into the Gauteng and KZN Provinces. We are looking forward to expanding our partnerships to more provinces in 2024 as the need is so extensive and is constantly increasing.
